THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis placed four Yellow Jackets on the 2022 all-Atlantic Coast Conference academic team, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Led by two-time selection Ava Hrastar, the sophomore was joined by teammates Kylie Bilchev, Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura on the prestigious list that recognizes student-athlete’s successes on and off the court.
Minimum academic requirements for selection for the all-ACC academic team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the all-ACC academic team.
Earning her second consecutive all-ACC academic recognition, Hrastar compiled a 19-14 overall singles record this past season, including an 8-5 ACC record to earn her all-ACC third team honors. The business administration major earned ITA All-American status after reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship with Bilchev. The pair, which climbed as high as No. 12 in the ITA national rankings, put together an impressive 21-10 overall record.
In singles action, Bilchev went 17-11 overall and spent the entire dual season ranked in the nation’s top 100. A biology major, Bilchev went 8-5 against league opponents, mainly from the No. 3 position. The freshman capped her inaugural collegiate season earning all-ACC third team recognition and ITA All-American status in doubles.
Lee put together an impressive resume her sophomore season on The Flats. The all-ACC first team honoree went 25-8 overall in singles and 22-6 in doubles with Sharabura. Lee went 16-5 from the No. 1 singles position and climbed as high as No. 22 in the ITA national singles rankings, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Singles Championships.
Lee partnered with Sharabura in doubles action to compose the No. 5-ranked doubles team in the country, earning ITA All-American status. The pair went 22-6 overall and 17-3 in dual action this season, mainly from the No. 1 position. Lee and Sharabura earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship. In singles action, Sharabura went 16-11 overall and 8-8 in dual match play, earning all-ACC third team honors.
Tech’s four all-ACC academic team selections mark the most since the 2012 season when the Yellow Jackets earned five honors.
