STANFORD, Calif. – Led by an undefeated run during conference play at No. 1 singles, Stanford’s Arthur Fery was named the Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year while freshman Samir Banerjee was named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year.
Fery and Banerjee joined Max Basing on the All-Pac-12 first team, with Stanford co-leading the league with three first team selections, while Nishesh Basavareddy was picked to the second team.
One of the top players in the country, Fery is Stanford’s first Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year since Tom Fawcett in 2017, and the 20th overall, while he earns his second straight first team selection and third All-Pac-12 selection overall after a second team nod in 2021. The junior went 15-4 at No. 1 singles this season, earning the No. 3 national seed in the NCAA singles bracket later this month. Fery has nine ranked wins this season, including three over top-eight national seeds in this month’s NCAA tournament.
Banerjee becomes Stanford’s first Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year since Fawcett won the honor in 2015, and the third since 2009, joining former NCAA champion Bradley Klahn. He has tallied a 14-6 record as a freshman, including a 13-4 dual mark, and has been ranked as high as No. 49 this season. Banerjee has spent the dual season largely at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, and he has six wins over ranked opposition.
Basing is an All-Pac-12 selection for the second consecutive season, earning first team honors after a second-team nod in 2022. He has been ranked as high as No. 4 nationally this season, going 16-7 with eight wins over ranked opponents and a semifinal appearance at the ITA All-American Championships in September.
Basavareddy holds a 22-7 record, led by a dynamic fall that included a victory at the ITA Fall National Championship. Basavareddy was the fourth Stanford athlete to win the tournament and the first freshman since 2011. The Carmel, Indiana native holds 11 wins this season over ranked opponents, and was seeded No. 9-16 in the NCAA singles draw.
Stanford men’s tennis went 14-10 in the regular season and advanced to its 15th consecutive NCAA Tournament.
