CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s Fiona Crawley was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while her teammates Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty were named the Doubles Team of the Week. Duke’s Shavit Kimchi earned Freshman of the Week honors.
Crawley helped lead the No. 1 Tar Heels to a 3-0 weekend, featuring a 6-1 win over No. 11 Auburn and a pair of 7-0 sweeps against Campbell and No. 3 Georgia. The San Antonio, Texas, native earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position against Campbell before a 6-3, 6-3 win over Auburn’s No. 8 Carolyn Ansar. The senior closed out the weekend by giving UNC its first two points over the Bulldogs. The No. 23 ranked duo of Crawley and Carson Tanguilig clinched the doubles point before Crawly took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Georgia’s No. 30 Dasha Vidmanova on Court 2.
Brantmeier and Scotty gave Carolina the doubles point advantage over the Bulldogs with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 doubles position over Georgia’s No. 58 ranked duo of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova. The top-ranked UNC pair added two additional doubles wins over the weekend against Campbell, 6-0, and No. 11 Auburn, 6-2.
Kimchi helped lead No. 15 Duke to a 3-0 record at home inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Sdey Hemed, Israel, native went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles while playing the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slot and the No. 3 and No. 1 doubles positions. She collected a ranked win against No. 98 Lucia Quiterio of Charlotte, 6-4, 6-3, in the Blue Devils’ 4-0 sweep of the 49ers. Kimchi clinched the wins for Duke against NCCU and Illinois, as she helped head coach Jamie Ashworth to his 600th career victory.
