Duke Battles on Day One of ITA All-American Championships


TULSA, Okla. – Four Blue Devils competed on the opening day of the 2022 ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
 
Duke juniors Andrew DaleFaris Khan and Niroop Vallabhaneni as well as sophomore Jake Krug all saw action on Saturday.
 
Dale earned a 6-1 victory in his opening set against Auburn’s Spencer Gray but fell in his next two 7-5, 6-3. Fellow classmate Vallabhaneni dropped his opening match to Antonio Muniz-Hidalgo of Southern Methodist 6-2, 6-3.
 
In Duke’s other two matches on the day, Khan was bested in three sets to Oliver Okonkwo of Illinois 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and Krug fell to Northwestern’s Presley Thieneman 7-5, 6-0.
 
All four Blue Devils will have one final match on Sunday in the consolation round. Duke opponents for those matches have not been announced yet.
