EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men’s tennis defeated Pacific 4-1 and Seattle 4-0 today in the Student Tennis Center.
Match one:
The first match of the day versus Pacific got intense quickly with all three courts exchanging point after point. Pacific got the first win of the match on court two with a 6-4 win, while Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele got one back for the Ducks, leaving the doubles point to be decided on court three. After a series of rallies, Luke Vandecasteele and Jesper Klov-Nilsson knotted things up at 5-5. Pacific, however, was too tough and won the next two points for a 7-5 and a 1-0 lead on the match.
Oregon battled back with a vengeance after dropping a rare doubles point. Quinn went to work quickly with a 6-0, 6-2 sweep at the two spot to tie the match at one-all. Ray Lo quickly followed with a 6-0, 6-2 sweep, soon being joined by Vlad Breazu with a 6-1, 6-3 sweep.
Things looked good for the Ducks who now needed just one more result to finish on top. Charlton and Keremedchiev were pushed to three sets, while Klov-Nilsson needed a tiebreak win in the first that prolonged things. Klov-Nilsson then sealed the deal in the second set with a 6-3 win, giving Oregon the 4-1 victory. The remaining two matches went unfinished.
