Downing, Wright Announced as Brad Davis SEC Award Winners


COLUMBIA, Mo. – Announced by the Southeastern Conference on Thursday, Dawson Downing (football) and Ellie Wright (tennis) are University of Missouri Athletics’ 2021-22 Brad Davis Community Service Award Winners.

Downing earned his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and health sciences in spring 2021 and is pursuing a graduate certificate in public health. He is a three-time member of Mizzou’s Dean’s List and a five-time SEC Honor Roll member.

He was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three seasons. Through the Athletes in Action organization, Downing traveled to Jamaica to work with local staff in cultivating athletic ministry. He was active in the Columbia community with time spent in the public schools, hospitals and food bank.

Wright has earned Dean’s List distinction in every semester of her collegiate career and is a four-time SEC Honor Roll member. She graduated cum laude and is currently enrolled in the MBA program at the University. Wrapped up career placing sixth in the program for most singles wins.

She is a four-season member of Mizzou’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, including two years as president. She has spent extensive time working with local chapters of Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and the food bank.

The school winners will each receive a $5,000 post-graduate scholarship provided by the SEC. The school award winners are nominees for the Male and Female Brad Davis Community Service Leaders of the Year which will be announced later in May, each receiving a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC.

The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship is named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis.  Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
