MADISON, Wisc. – Husky men’s tennis earned its biggest win of the season thus far, knocking off Wisconsin on the road by a 6-1 count. It’s the first win away from home for Washington (3-2) which quickly won the doubles point and clinched on a No. 1 singles win from Dzianis Zharyn.
The Huskies will stay in the Midwest for a huge test on Sunday at No. 11 Michigan. First serve for that match will be 9 a.m. Pacific.
At the Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, the Huskies had an early leg up as Wisconsin was down to five players and thus had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match. But UW pressed that advantage quickly, as 12th-ranked Zharyn and Cesar Bouchelaghem won the No. 1 doubles match without dropping a game, beating Wisconsin’s Olsson/Zlatohlavek, 6-0, to clinch the point.

Wisconsin not fielding anyone at sixth singles made it 2-0 Huskies at the start of singles play. Bouchelaghem rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Matthew Fullerton to put the Dawgs a point away.
Zharyn earned the clinching fourth point, holding off Michael Minasyan in the second set for a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
With the match clinched, the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches split sets and played 10-point tiebreaks in lieu of full third sets. Nedim Suko prevailed in his breaker, 10-8, over Collin Beduhn at No. 4. Wisconsin got a point at No. 5, as Ivan Sodan dropped his tiebreak, 9-11, to Oliver Olsson.
The final match at No. 3 was already in the third set when Zharyn clinched, so it went the full distance, ending up in a standard 7-point tiebreak. Han-Chih Lin was able to grind out that final win, 5-7, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3), over Zlatohlavek to complete the 6-1 final.
