There probably wasn’t much winning to be done for sportsbooks once the Wimbledon final was set as a matchup between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
The two opening favorites at BetMGM — Alcaraz at +150 and Djokovic +160 — they were the most-bet players by ticket and handle to win the tournament, making them the sportsbook’s biggest liabilities. Even as Djokovic was playing on a bad knee.
However, if there was a best-case scenario for the house, it would have been for the single-biggest liability, Alcaraz, to lose. By the semifinals, 32.6% of bets on a winner picked Alcaraz, and 43.3% of the handle. In comparison, Djokovic had attracted 22.9% of the tickets and 21.3% of the money.
Alcaraz was the one who delivered in front of the celebrity-laden crowd.
Astounding Alcaraz 🤩

The 21-year-old dominated Djokovic in a straight sets victory for his second straight Wimbledon title and fourth Grand Slam overall.
The win moved Alcaraz to 3-3 against Djokovic and easily stands out as the most lopsided of them all.
