WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women’s tennis had a day full of success. The Boilermakers started the day with a commanding 6-1 victory over Toledo then closed out the night with a 4-1 win over Butler.
MATCH 1 – Purdue vs. Toledo
The Boilermakers struck first to take the doubles point. Sophomores Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara played doubles for the first time together this spring. Milic and Guevara fought hard against Toledo’s Sanjana Tallamraju and Julia Kuszynski to secure a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Freshman Kennedy Gibbs and sophomore Juana Larranaga continued their doubles success at No. 3. The duo cruised to a 6-2 win over Cassie Alcala and Shalini Tallamraju from Toledo.
The Boilermaker’s sophomore corp all won in singles. Milic’s match against Mariona Perez of Toledo was a test of endurance. The second set ended in a tiebreak that Milic lost 9-7. Since the Boilermakers had already earned the 4 points needed to win, the match was decided in a 10-point super set. The lead switched back and forth between Perez and Milic, but ultimately Milic came out on top to win 13-11.
After dropping her first set, Guevara took the other two over Shalini Tallamraju. She won 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Larranaga secured a speedy 6-4, 6-2 victory over Julia Kuszynski from Toledo.
Redshirt senior Liz Norman secured the team win. The first set ended with a 6-3 win for Norman, but the second set carried on into a tiebreak which she won 7-5 over Alcala.
Senior Csilla Fodor finished her match quickly. After sweeping the first set 6-0, Fodor fought to close out the match against Toledo’s Sloane Teske. The second set ended with 6-3 in favor of Fodor to bring her one win closer to the history books.
