Bears Reach Quarters At Super Regional

STANFORD, Calif. – Ryder Jackson and Carl Emil Overbeck advanced to the singles quarterfinals as the Cal men’s tennis team began the ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships on Friday at Stanford’s Taube Family Tennis Center.
 
In the first round, the seventh-seeded Jackson defeated Gonzaga’s Matthew Hollingworth, 6-1, 7-6(5), and Overbeck beat Sacramento State’s Mark Keki, 6-0, 6-3, while Cal’s Alex Chang, Derrick Chen and Lucas Magnaudet fell in the round of 32.

The round of 16 saw Jackson knock off Stanford’s Neel Rajesh, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, and Overbeck beat Washington’s Cesar Bouchelaghem, 6-2, 6-2.

 

The two Golden Bears will play their singles quarterfinals on Saturday, when the fourth-seeded Overbeck and Jackson will also start the doubles main draw. Cal’s John Kim and Mikey Wright – who captured the title at the Cal-hosted ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Oct. 9 – are also competing in doubles on the Farm.

 

The ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships continue Saturday, with main draw doubles starting at 10 a.m. and main draw singles beginning at 3 p.m.
