EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s tennis completed Day Two of the Spartan Invite Saturday evening, highlighted by two singles wins for junior Luke Baylis and a 2-1 record for the Spartan doubles pairings.
Baylis defeated Indiana’s Andrew Meier in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round of singles. In the second round of singles, Baylis topped Notre Dame’s Braeden Ho, 6-4, 6-2, while senior Kazuki Matsuno defeated Notre Dame’s Noah Becker, 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Josh Portnoy also collected a win in the second round of singles, defeating Notre Dame’s Matthew Halpin.
In doubles play, Baylis earned a third win alongside Portnoy, defeating Ho and Haplin of Notre Dame, 6-4. Matsuno and freshman David Saye topped Notre Dame’s Brian Bilsey and Becker, 7-5.
The Spartans compete in the final day of the Spartan Invite Sunday, playing for the tournament title at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Center. Action begins at 9 a.m.
