NEW YORK – Michigan State freshman Ozan Baris concluded play at the US Open Junior Championships Monday after advancing to the round of 32.
Baris, who began play on Sunday, Sept. 4, captured a 6-3, 6-4, win over Cyprus’ Constantinos Koshis in the round of 64. The win advanced him to Monday’s round of 32 against No. 3 seed Kilian Feldbausch of Switzerland.
Feldbausch, who holds a No. 7 ranking in the International Tennis Federation’s junior rankings, topped Baris in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Baris’ performance comes after a third-place finish at last month’s United States Tennis Association Boys’ 18-Under National Championships. He also made appearances at this year’s Australian Junior Open and in the junior tournaments at the French Open and Wimbledon.
Spartans’ men’s tennis begins fall tournament play in Lexington, Ky. at the Wildcat Invite. The three-day tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 16.
