Badgers rout Boilermakers for third straight win

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team ended a perfect weekend in Indiana after defeating Purdue on the road Sunday afternoon for its third straight win.
 
The Badgers (11-9, 5-2 Big Ten) downed the Boilermakers (9-12, 2-5) by a score of 6-1 to end their final regular-season road trip undefeated. UW scored a 4-3 win at Indiana on Friday.
 
Wisconsin has won four of its last five matches and is third in the Big Ten standings heading into the final week of the regular season. UW trails only No. 2-ranked Ohio State (7-0) and No. 7 Michigan (7-1) in the league race and will face the Buckeyes on Friday before wrapping up with Penn State on Sunday. The Badgers are looking to secure their first top-three Big Ten finish since tying for second in 2008.
 
Sunday, for the second straight match, Mihailo Popovic and Lenard Soha got things started for UW on the doubles front. The duo worked their way to a 6-3 win over Purdue’s Andre Suzanne and Milledge Cossu. 
 
Quickly following suit, Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile secured a 6-1 victory to clinch the doubles point. The pair defeated Michal Wozniak and Piotr Galus at the No. 1 position for their eighth win working together this season.
 
Momentum was already swinging in the Badgers’ favor, up 1-0 after doubles play. Sophomore Tim Dzhurinskiy gave a dominating performance at the No. 6 singles position with a quick straight-sets win to put the second Badger point on the board. Dhzurinskiy took down Wozniak 6-4, 6-0 for his 13th singles win of the season.
