Antonaki Named SEC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year


STARKVILLE – Mississippi State graduate Emmanouela Antonaki was named SEC Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year announced on Wednesday as part of the conference tournament.
 
The Southeastern Conferece selects a Scholar-Athlete of the Year in every sport. In order to be nominated for the annual award a student-athlete must have legitimate athletic credentials, have competed in at least 50 percent of teams’ competitions and be a sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative 3.2 GPA.
 
“Emmanouela is the ultimate model of a student-athlete,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “She is someone any coach would want to have on the team. You don’t have to worry about her getting it done on the court or in the classroom. She has the most singles wins in the history of our program. Emmanouela has meant a lot to the team on the court, but it is always nice to see her succeeding in the classroom. This is every indication that she is going to succeed in anything she does in the future. I’m really proud of her.”
 
Antonaki has turned in a 4.0 GPA and been named to the Mississippi State Dean’s List eight times. While maintaining a prefect GPA she has gone 18-14 overall and 13-9 in dual match play at the No. 1 position this season and leads the team in both categories.
 
During the 2023 season, she claimed multiple wins that moved her to her the No. 1 spot in the MSU record book for career singles wins. Antonaki is currently ranked at 68 after earning four ranked wins this season. The four ranked wins has moved her to 28 career ranked wins.
 
From 2018-Present she has an overall record of 97-63 in singles and 81-59 record in doubles.
 
During her career at Mississippi State Antonaki has earned a number if accolades. In 2019 she earned ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-SEC, All-Freshman SEC and a SEC Freshman of the Week. In 2020 was the ITA Southern Region Player to Watch. In 2021, she earned First All-SEC Team, a SEC Player of the Week and was an ITA All-American. During the 2022 season Antonaki earned a spot on the Second Team All-SEC.
 
Antoanki is the second player in program history to earn this award, with Anastasia Rentouli earning the accolade in 2019.
