COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker has put together another challenging schedule for 2023. The Buckeyes are coming off yet another Big Ten Championship and an NCAA semifinal appearance last season.

The season starts on Sunday, Jan. 15, with a double-header against Northern Kentucky and Xavier and will hopefully culminate at the NCAA Championship final site in Orlando, Fla., on May 17-27.

Notes on the 2023 season

  • The Buckeyes will open the season with nine consecutive home matches
  • Ohio State plays 10 teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament, including last year’s national champion Virginia
  • Ohio State returns to hosting the ITA Kickoff Weekend as this year’s event will be on Jan. 28-29. The Buckeyes will play UCF in the opening round and will also host Oregon and Tulsa.
  • The schedule includes, for the second season, a nine-match Big Ten schedule. This year, Ohio State will play five home B1G matches and four road matches
  • Ohio State will also play Illinois and Michigan in non-conference matches, hosting Illinois in January and Michigan in March
  • The Buckeyes will spend spring break this March in Florida at the USTA National Campus, the site of the NCAA Championship in March. They will play UCF on March 15
  • Ohio State is making its first regular season road trip to Wake Forest since 2009 and first regular season trip to Virginia since 2000
  • Baylor’s visit to Columbus in mid-February will be just its second match in Columbus all-time. The only other match was a 7-0 Buckeye win in 2009
  • The Buckeyes will be making their first trip to Columbia, S.C. to take on South Carolina since 1977.
  • Indiana will host the Big Ten Tournament this year on April 27-30
