California men’s tennis team standouts Carl Emil Overbeck, Alex Chang and Timofey Stepanov were named to the 2024 All-Pac-12 teams, the conference announced Thursday. Overbeck earned a first-team berth, Chang was named to the second team and Stepanov claimed honorable mention.
 
The All-Pac-12 accolades were the first for each Golden Bear.
 
Overbeck, a junior, finished the season with records of 17-3 in singles – including 5-5 on court one – and 16-9 in doubles – including going 6-3 when paired with Mikey Wright and 4-1 with Qian Sun. Highlights for the Copenhagen, Denmark, native included capturing the singles title at the Jack Kramer Invitational in November, clinching Cal’s 5-0 win over UC San Diego and twice beating Stanford’s 55th-ranked Samir Banerjee. Overbeck also racked up wins over USC’s 76th-ranked Peter Makk and UCLA’s 104th-ranked Spencer Johnson. At the ITA All-American Championships in October, he beat previously ranked opponents in Princeton’s Top Nidunjianzan and Baylor’s Oskar Brostrom Poulson.
 
A Berkeley product, Chang led the Bears in wins in doubles and tied Stepanov for the team high in singles wins, posting 20-9 records in both. In doubles, the junior partnered with Wright to go 7-2 and earn a No. 56 ranking in the latest ITA poll, and, in singles, he clinched a pair of 4-0 Cal victories over Pepperdine and Utah. Chang garnered the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor of his career March 19 after leading Cal to 4-1 wins over Oregon and Washington, pairing with Wright to clinch the doubles point in both matches and winning in singles against the Ducks. Chang collected his second Pac-12 Player of the Week award April 9 after winning three times in singles and, with Wright, twice in doubles in Cal wins over Utah, UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary’s. At the ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships in October, Chang reached the singles quarterfinals.
