DURHAM – For the fourth time this season, Duke women’s tennis rookie Shavit Kimchi has earned ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The four ACC Freshman of the Week selections rank as the second-most in Duke history behind Kelly Chen with six in 2017-18.
Kimchi, who hails from Sdey Hemed, Israel, collected a pair of victories against Virginia Tech on Friday in both singles and doubles action. At the No. 2 singles slot, she posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Katie Andreini to register her fifth ACC victory and her fifth win over the last six matches.
In doubles play, Kimchi teamed with Katie Codd to register their first ranked win of the season at the No. 1 position with a 6-0 victory over 75th-ranked Erika Cheng and Semra Aksu.
On Sunday versus fourth-ranked Virginia, Kimchi and Codd dropped a tight, 6-4, match to 12th-ranked Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky in doubles and fell, 6-3, 6-4, to 22nd-ranked Hibah Shaikh in singles.
Kimchi is currently ranked No. 69 nationally and owns 25 combined singles and doubles wins on the season.
Duke will close the regular season this weekend at Notre Dame on Friday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m., and at Louisville on Sunday, April 14 at 12 p.m.
