No. 25 Women’s Tennis Can’t Catch No. 1 Cowgirls

TEMPE, Ariz.- No. 25 Arizona State Women’s Tennis (5-3) put up a hard fight against No. 1 Oklahoma State (9-0) before falling 4-0 on Saturday at Whiteman Tennis Center.
 
Doubles featured a closely contested trio of matches where all three courts went to a tiebreak. Oklahoma State survived the back-and-forth battle, winning the best-of-three doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. On court two, senior Giulia Morlet and freshman Sara Svetac fought back from a 5-6 deficit to force the tiebreak and win their match 7-6 (7-3). The Cowgirls took Court 3 by a score of 7-6 (7-5). With both schools each taking a doubles match, attention was on the doubles-clinching court one match. The Sun Devils and the Cowgirls traded points throughout the the tiebreake, but the Cowgirls ended up winning the deciding match, 7-6 (9-7). 
 
“I thought it was a high quality doubles,” Mclnerney said. “Very rarely do you have all three courts play in tiebreakers in doubles and we did. I thought we played very aggressive and I think that’s the most important thing in doubles.You have to play to win. Oklahoma State was a little bit better when they needed to be at the end.”
 
In singles, Oklahoma State won the first three matches on courts five, two, and four to seal their victory over ASU.
