Tennessee Sweeps in Doubles Play on Day Two of Hagedorn Hidden Dual


SAN DIEGO – Tennessee men’s tennis collected seven wins against members of San Diego and Pepperdine on the second day of the Hagedorn Hidden Dual Saturday, hosted by the University of San Diego at Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
 
The Vols notched a perfect 3-0 record on the doubles courts, sparked by Johannus Monday and Angel Diaz’s 6-3 victory over Pepperdine’s Edward Winter and Maxi Homberg. Shunsuke Mitsui and Filip Pieczonka recorded their second doubles win of the weekend, taking down San Diego’s Sacchitt Sharma and Stian Klaassen, 6-4. James Newton and Filip Apltauer rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Linus Carlsson Halldin and George Davis of Pepperdine.
 
In singles competition, Monday battled after dropping the first set to rout Pepperdine’s Edward Winter, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Apltauer logged his first singles win of the weekend with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Nikhil Niranjan of San Diego. Mitsui took care of business with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Iiro Vasa (San Diego), and Li rolled Neo Niedner (San Diego) in 6-2, 6-0 fashion.
