Women’s Tennis | October 31, 2023
LOS ANGELES – The USC women’s tennis team returns to action one last time this fall as the Women of Troy will split up and take on the ITA National Fall Championships (San Diego, Calif.) and the Thunderbird Invite (Tempe, Ariz.) this week.
USC, led by head coach Alison Swain, looks to wrap up a monumental fall with big performances this weekend at both the ITA Fall Nationals and the Thunderbird Invite. Fall Nationals will be held November 1-5 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif., while the ASU-hosted Thunderbird Invite will run November 3-5 in Tempe, Ariz.
Most recently, Trojan sophomore Emma Charney captured the singles title at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. At the same event, Charney and her partner Eryn Cayetano reached the doubles semifinals. The USC pair of Grace Piper and Parker Fry also made the doubles semifinals.
ITA NATIONAL FALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Sophomore Charney will lead the way for the Women of Troy at the ITA National Fall Championships this week after securing a singles berth with her win at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships earlier this month. Graduate student Cayetano will join Charney in San Diego after the pair secured a doubles wildcard, as did the junior pairing of Piper and Fry.
This season, Charney looks to be the second Trojan in recent years to win the ITA singles title, with Cayetano winning in 2021.

ARIZONA STATE THUNDERBIRD INVITE
A squadron of Trojans will be desert-bound this weekend as USC heads to the Thunderbird Invite, hosted by Arizona State. Senior Naomi Cheong, junior Sloane Morra and redshirt junior Isabelle Lee will all make their returns to the tournament, while redshirt juniors Snow Han and McKenna Koenig will record their first appearances at the invitational. Last year, the Women of Troy secured nine wins across singles and doubles play at the event.
