DURHAM – Coming off spring break, the 10th-ranked Duke women’s tennis team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center and collected a 7-0 win over Northwestern to close the non-conference portion of their 2023 slate.
The Blue Devils improved to 16-2 overall and won their 22nd-straight home match to tie for the fifth-longest streak in school history. Northwestern fell to 5-9 on the year.
How It Happened
• Northwestern came out in doubles with the hot hand taking leads on all three courts early.
• After falling behind, 3-1, on court three, Duke’s tandem of Iuliia Bryzgalova and Emma Jackson battled back to take the match, 6-3, by winning five straight games.
• On court two, the Blue Devil duo of Karolina Berankova and Ellie Coleman faced Maria Shusharina and Sydney Pratt. The match featured six deuce points with Duke dropping four of the six in a very tight match. Northwestern went ahead, 5-1, but Berankova and Coleman won back-to-back deuce points to extend the match, before falling, 6-3.
