No. 19 Men's Tennis Hosts Middle Tennessee


EVANSTON, Ill. – After splitting a pair of matches against Ivy League competition last weekend, Northwestern returns home to Combe Tennis Center to battle the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Thursday, March 9 at 6 p.m. CT. The match can be streamed at nusports.com/watch and live stats can be viewed online.

The ‘Cats opened last weekend with a strong opponent in No. 11 Columbia on Friday night in New York. The Lions opened the match by taking the doubles point, and won #4, #5, and #6 Singles to take the match, 4-0.

Northwestern rebounded strongly on Sunday, downing the Princeton Tigers 4-0. Trice Pickens and Natan Spear defeated Princeton’s #3 Doubles and Steven Forman and Simen Bratholm defeated Princeton’s #1 Doubles team 6-4 team to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Ivan Yatsuk earned a 6-2, 7-5 win at #2 Singles to give the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead. Gleb Blekher’s 6-3, 6-2 win at #6 Singles brought Northwestern to the brink of clinching, before Simen Bratholm finished off the Tigers with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #3 Singles.

Middle Tennessee enters Thursday’s matchup with a 12-5 record and No. 29 ranking in the ITA Team Rankings. The Blue Raiders have already faced two Big Ten opponents this season, defeating both Michigan State (6-1) and Indiana (4-1). Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Francisco Rocha rank No. 46 in the ITA Doubles Rankings, while Stijn Slump ranks No. 82 and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen ranks No. 99 in the ITA Singles Rankings.

Following the Middle Tennessee match, the Wildcats will take a break for finals and Spring Break, before returning to action on March 26 to open conference play against No. 4 Ohio State and No. 57 Penn State at Combe Tennis Center. Admission is free at Combe Tennis Center all regular season long.
