Boilermakers Fight Through Tie Breaks to Win


BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Despite inclement weather, the Purdue women’s tennis team was able to play on the first day of the Bonita Bay Collegiate Open.

On the first day, the Boilermakers faced Florida Gulf Coast and were able to put up impressive stats in both doubles and singles.

In doubles, junior Rut Galindo and sophomore Tara Katarina Milic fought through a hard match, but were able to secure the win. The duo were able to take the match to win 7-6 (3). Sophomore Juana Larranaga and freshman Antonia Pareja also added a win to the team tally after finishing their match 6-4.

Galindo’s singles match brought another tie break. This time the junior fought back to win the second set after losing the first to send the match to a third set. Galindo added a tally to her win column after winning the tie break 10-5. Redshirt senior Liz Norman, sophomore Juana Larranaga and sophomore Tara Katarina Milic won their singles matches as well.

Liz Norman (PUR) def. Isabella Colmeares (FGCU) 6-2, 6-0

Tara Katarina Milic (PUR) def. Emma Bardet (FGCU) 6-3, 6-3

Rut Galindo (PUR) def. Fanny Norin (FGCU) 3-6, 6-4, 10-5

Juana Larranaga (PUR) def. Jordana Ossa (FGCU) 6-3, 6-2

Amelia Kopel (FGCU) def. Kennedy Gibbs (PUR) 0-6, 7-6 (5), 10-4

Ida Ferding (FGCU) def. Antonia Pareja 6-0, 3-6, 10-7
