Ryder Jackson next plays in the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego.
STANFORD, Calif. – Ryder Jackson completed a strong run in the ITA Northwest Super Regional Championships on Monday, when the Cal men’s tennis junior competed in the singles final, falling to Stanford’s Nishesh Basavareddy.
Jackson, seeded seventh, lost to the top-seeded Basavareddy, 6-0, 6-3, at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
“I felt like I played really well and gained a lot of confidence for sure playing in all these matches,” Jackson said. “After the last couple of tournaments, I’m just trying to keep the momentum going this fall. I felt really positive throughout the tournament.”
“I’m always happy with his focus level and with him being able to close out tough matches,” said Kris Kwinta, Cal’s Peter Wright Director of Men’s Tennis. “That’s a big improvement for him. He had a very good tournament.

Jackson will next compete in the ITA National Fall Championships from Nov 2-6 in San Diego. He qualified for the national tournament by winning his singles semifinal on the Farm.
“This will be my first time at fall nationals, and the competition there will be really tough,” Jackson said. “It’ll be challenging for me and also a good experience to play against all those talented players.”
Seven Golden Bears played in the super regional event, including Carl Emil Overbeck, who partnered with Jackson to reach the doubles semis, as well as Alex Chang, Derrick Chen, John Kim, Lucas Magnaudet and Mikey Wright.
“As a team we had a positive tournament,” Kwinta added. “Carlo made the singles semis, beat the No. 3 seed, and won three consecutive matches; Derrick won two extra matches; Alex also won a couple of extra matches; John Kim and Mikey won in doubles; Lucas won twice in singles.
