TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jonah Braswell and Lukas Greif were busy snatching up wins on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Southeast Regional.
The freshman Braswell cemented his spot in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw after winning his showdown with SEC-foe No. 73 ranked Trent Bryde from Georgia. Braswell jumped out to a strong 6-3 first set, but Bryde wouldn’t go down easy, as he returned with a 6-2 second frame. The Sarasota, Fla. native took over the third set and won in convincing fashion, 6-1. The victory is Braswell’s team-leading 11th of the fall season and third against a ranked opponent.
In the consolation singles draw, Greif went undefeated on the day with a pair of straight set wins to advance to the quarterfinals. The senior eliminated FAU’s Filip Krolo, 6-3, 6-4 to start the morning. Once again, Greif went to work and the Newburgh, Ind. native refused to drop a set against Nacho Serra Sanchez from Miami winning 6-4, 6-3 clinching an opportunity in the quarterfinals.
Braswell and Greif weren’t finished. The Gators pairing carried over their success into two impressive showings in the doubles draw. Both Braswell and Greif took on Georgia Tech’s duo of Robert Bauer and Keshav Chopra edging the Yellow Jackets, 8-6. They were even more dominant in their match against the combo of Blake Croyder and Britton Johnson from Georgia as they overpowered the Bulldogs, 8-3 to advance to the semifinals.
