DURHAM – No. 4 Duke women’s tennis learned its matchups for the 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend following the conclusion of Thursday’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) draft. The Blue Devils are set to host the Durham Regional, welcoming SMU, VCU and Wisconsin to the Bull City.
The second-seeded Mustangs square off against No. 3 seed and 2022 ITA National Indoor Championships host Wisconsin on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Top-seeded Duke will meet fourth-seeded VCU in its opening-round contest. Times for the matches have yet to be determined.
Winners of each match will advance to the championship on Sunday, Jan. 29. There will also be a consolation match played on Sunday. The regional winner advances to the 2023 ITA Indoor National Championships, in Seattle, Wash.
The Blue Devils will serve as one of 15 host sites, looking to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the 25th time in program lore.
SMU concluded the 2021-22 dual campaign with a 15-9 overall record, while VCU and Wisconsin posted marks of 18-7 and 17-9, respectively.
