CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men’s tennis team will resume its 2024 fall schedule on Friday, when two Fighting Illini student-athletes make the trip to South Bend, Indiana, for the Notre Dame Mini Duals.
Redshirt sophomore Tyler Bowers and sophomore Jeremy Zhang will represent the Orange and Blue at the three-day event on Notre Dame’s campus from Nov. 1-3.
Both Illini student-athletes are returning to action for the first time since competing at the ITA Midwest Regional from Oct. 10-14 in East Lansing, Michigan. They each picked up one singles victory at the competition, while Bowers advanced all the way to the doubles main draw final while playing with Zach Viiala.
Bowers boasts a 4-1 singles record during the fall slate, with his lone loss coming against an opponent ranked among the top 15 players in the country. He started the season with three consecutive singles triumphs, and he has already recorded a five-match winning streak in doubles play.
Zhang sits at 3-3 in singles action across his two tournament appearances thus far this fall. Zhang opened the season with two wins at the Harvard Chowderfest, and he has collected one doubles victory with Bowers this season.
Bowers and Zhang will both compete in singles play at the competition, while they will also team up and take part in doubles play.
Illinois will be joined in South Bend by student-athletes from DePaul, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin.
