2024 ACC Women's Tennis Championship Begins Wednesday


CARY, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship begins Wednesday, April 17, at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. The first match is set for 12:30 p.m. between No. 12 Boston College and No. 13 Clemson, followed by a 3:30 p.m. matchup between No. 11 Virginia Tech and No. 14 Louisville.

In the top 25 ITA rankings, North Carolina jumped to No. 4, Virginia is No. 5 and NC State is No. 12. Additionally, Miami ranks No. 19, Duke is No. 21, Florida State is No. 22 and Georgia Tech is No. 23. Seven teams in the top 25 are also the most of any conference.  

Nine ACC players – tied for the most of any conference – are among the ITA top 30 women’s individual singles rankings, including two in the top five with North Carolina’s Reese Brantmeier at No. 2 and NC State’s Amelia Rajecki at No. 5.   

North Carolina’s Elizabeth Scotty and Reese Brantmeier hold the No. 1 women’s doubles ranking to highlight 11 ACC doubles teams in the top 30 of the ITA rankings, the most of any conference, with five in the top 15.

The 2023 National Champion Tar Heels (19-3, 12-1) locked in the No. 1 seed after riding a six-match win streak that included a head-to-head 4-1 win over Virginia on March 5. With the No. 2 singles player and No. 1 doubles team in the nation, UNC became the regular-season co-champions with Virginia after its 12-1 ACC finish – it’s 11th overall regular-season title.

Virginia (20-3, 12-1) earned the regular-season co-champion title for just the second time in program history and the first time since 2014 with its 12-1 ACC record. With this season’s loss to North Carolina, UVA is the No. 2 seed. The Cavaliers secured seven top-25 victories and stayed undefeated at home (12-0) this season, closing out ACC play with a 6-1 win over Miami and a 4-2 win over Florida State.

Florida State (15-7, 9-4) rode a nine-match win streak into their final matchup before falling to No. 5 Virginia on Sunday, 4-2. The win streak included a 5-2 upset victory over No. 15 NC State. The Seminoles have two singles players ranked in the top 35 in the nation with three-time ACC Player of the Week No. 28 Vic Allen and No. 33 Ellie Schoppe.
