Women's Tennis Welcomes Tara Chilton

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers head women’s tennis coach Hilary Ritchie has announced the addition of transfer Tara Chilton from the University of Washington. The Reno, Nevada native will arrive “On The Banks” as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2022-23 season.

Prior to the collegiate ranks, Chilton was a four-star recruit ranked No. 46 nationally in the 2020 class out of IMG Academy (Fla.).

“I’m looking forward to having Tara join our Rutgers family,” said Ritchie. “She has two years of experience playing high-caliber tennis at Washington. I’m particularly excited about how she will impact our doubles lineup. Tara has a passion for competition and will fit in seamlessly with our team culture.”

In her two seasons at Washington, Chilton compiled an 18-18 singles and 17-14 doubles record.

Last year as a sophomore, Chilton and the No. 37 Huskies played to a 14-12 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. She went 7-2 in singles tournament play including reaching the round of 32 at ITA Northwest Regional.

As a freshman, Chilton earned a starting spot going 9-11 in dual singles with a 5-2 mark at No. 6 singles and winning her first six singles matches all in straight sets. She also posted a 10-8 dual doubles record which included a 6-2 win over No. 16 Baylor and 6-4 victory against No. 6 Arizona State.
