Women’s Tennis Tabs First Conference Win With 4-1 Victory Over Colorado


SEATTLE –  The Huskies women’s tennis team defeated Colorado Friday afternoon 4-1 at Quillian Tennis Stadium.
 
In the first outdoor match at home for the Huskies, Washington went down 0-1 early after losing doubles matches on courts 1 and 3. Washington toughed out four singles wins to come back and take the match 4-1 to improve to 11-6 on the season and secure their first conference win.
 
Jacobs was the first to win her singles match, as the freshman put the Huskies on the board with her 7-5, 6-0 win over Colorado’s Elys Ventura.
 
Melissa Sakar was relentless on court 4 and didn’t give up a single game, besting the Buffs’ Abyasova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 to improve to 13-3 in singles play.
 
Catherine Gagnon won her match on 6 in straight sets for the third Dawg win, 6-3, 7-6.
 
Astrid Olsen went up 6-1 in her first set before dropping the second 6-2. She came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third to tie things at 3-3 and go on to win, 6-4 and clinch.
 
Erika Matsuda on court 1 and Dariya Detkovskaya on 5 abandoned their matches as the Huskies clinched the match.
 
Washington will face Utah on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Quillian Tennis Stadium.
