Women’s Tennis Starts Road Swing at Kentucky, Vanderbilt – University of South Carolina Athletics

Columbia, S.C. – ­No. 17 South Carolina women’s tennis will hit the road this weekend to face No. 64 Kentucky and No. 27 Vanderbilt. The match against the Wildcats will be Friday, April 5 at 5:00 p.m. with the match against the Commodores on Sunday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Friday’s match will also be broadcast as part of the SEC’s CrossCourt cast on ESPN+.

Gamecock Notables

  • South Carolina is 14-5 on the season with a 6-4 record in SEC play. The Gamecocks are 2-3 when playing on the road and enter the weekend with a two-match win streak.
  • In this week’s ITA Singles Rankings, Ayana Akli comes in at No. 6 with Sarah Hamner at No. 12.
  • Akli is 23-8 overall this season and 10-4 in dual matches, all from the top of the lineup. She is currently on a four-match win streak with all four of her wins coming in straight sets.
  • Hamner leads the team with a 27-6 overall record. She is 14-1 in dual matches and 7-1 against SEC opponents. She enters the weekend on a seven-match win streak.
  • Also with an impressive win streak is junior Olympe Lancelot who has won each of her last six matches. She is 18-13 overall and 7-3 in SEC play.
  • In the doubles rankings, Akli and Hamner pair together at No. 23 while Akli and Lancelot are No. 40.
  • Akli and Hamner are 8-8 overall this season and 5-4 from the top of the doubles lineup. They have won four of their last seven matches together.

Scouting the Wildcats

  • Kentucky is 8-10 overall this season and 2-7 in SEC play. They are 7-3 on their home courts and are coming off of a narrow 3-4 loss to Arkansas.
  • The Wildcats are represented in the ITA Rankings by Elizabeth Stevens and Makayla Mills who are ranked No. 44 together. The duo has a 12-8 record.

Scouting the Commodores

  • Vanderbilt is 11-5 overall this season and 6-3 in conference play. They are a perfect 8-0 on their home courts this season and enter the weekend on a three-match win streak. They will host No. 13 Florida on Friday before hosting No. 17 South Carolina on Sunday.
  • There are two Commodores in the ITA Singles Rankings – No. 17 Celia-Belle Mohr and No. 75 Bridget Stammel.
  • Mohr is 25-7 this season and 10-3 in dual matches, all from the top of the lineup. She is 6-2 against SEC opponents this season.
