Women's Tennis Earns NCAA Spot, to Start Friday

INDIANAPOLIS – The UCLA women’s tennis team was selected to the NCAA Division I Championship field Monday and begins its postseason journey in Durham, N.C., the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Subcommittee announced.

UCLA, which garnered an at-large pick, and Stanford are the only programs that have been chosen to participate in the national year-end tournament since the team format was adopted in 1982.

Matches at Ambler Tennis Stadium are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The Bruins (13-7, 6-4 Pac-12) meet Texas Tech (14-10, 4-5 Big 12) in Friday’s opener, scheduled for a 11 a.m. PT start. No. 6-seed and host Duke (22-4, 11-2 ACC) then takes on William & Mary (15-5, 5-0 CAA) at 2 p.m. PT. The winners face off Saturday at 2 p.m. PT, with a super-regional spot on the line.

UCLA and Texas Tech have met twice before, splitting decisions. The Bruins dealt the Red Raiders a 4-0 loss in the second round of the NCAA tournament at Los Angeles Tennis Center in 2021. Abbey Forbes clinched the victory for fourth-seeded UCLA, which also received singles wins from Annette Goulak and Vivian Wolff after collecting the doubles point.

The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 12 or 13. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-20. This year’s event will be conducted jointly with the NCAA Divisions II and III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships and hosted by the University of Central Florida and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.
