TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona celebrated their Senior Day in the match up against Washington State, recognizing Brandelyn Fulgenzi and Kayla Wilkins.
The Cats were the first victory of the day as senior Wilkins, and freshman Teja Tiruneveli, secured the win on court three 6-1. However, Washington State earned the doubles point with wins on court one and two as Elyse Tse/Eva Alvarez defeated Fulgenzi/Reece Carter 6-4 and Fifa Kumhom/Yura Nakagawa led Belen Nevenhoven/Martyna Ostryzgalo 6-1.
Tanvi Narendran was quick to tie up the score and put Arizona on the board in a straight-set victory over Tiffany Phout 6-0, 6-1. WSU put themselves back in the lead as their player on court 3 won by retirement. Fulgenzi came back to give the Wildcats a point after a 6-4, 6-2 take down over Hania Abouselsaad. No.111 Carter fell in her first set 3-6, but gained momentum and came back to win her match on court one over Eva Alvarez 6-0, 6-2 to put the Wildcats in the lead 3-2. Wilkins and Castillo were left on court two and four going to three sets against the Cougars. Kumhom led in the first set 6-2, but Castillo bounced back in the final two sets 6-2, 7-6(7-4). This win put the match score at 4-2 which gave the Wildcats the win. Wilkins finished off her senior day with one more win on court two 4-6, 7-6(7-4), 7-5.
The Wildcats are back in action Tuesday, Apr. 9 at 10:30 a.m. MT. Arizona travels north to Flagstaff, Ariz. to take on Northern Arizona.
