CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the 27th time in a row, the University of Miami women’s tennis team is in the NCAA Team Championship. The Hurricanes claimed the No. 14 overall seed will host the first and second rounds of the tournament.
Now solely owning 10th-longest NCAA streak in the country with 27 consecutive berths dating back to 1996, No. 14 Miami (15-7, 9-4 ACC) is hosting for the 15th time in the last 18 events, including the second in a row.
The Hurricanes begin postseason competition Friday at 1 p.m. against Boston University at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Terriers are 19-4 (5-0 PL) on the season and are riding a 10-match winning streak. They do not have any ranked players or pairs.
Prior to Miami’s contest against Boston University, No. 19 Auburn will face No. 35 FIU in the other Round of 64 match, with first serve set for 10 a.m.
The Tigers are 18-8 (8-5 SEC) this year and are the third-highest-ranked non-host in the tournament. Auburn has two ranked singles players in Carolyn Ansari and Ariana Arsenault at No. 23 and No. 33, respectively, as well as two ranked doubles duos. Ansari and Arsenault together place No. 34, while Anastasia Astakhova and Adeline Flach come in at No. 72.
The Panthers own an 18-4 (3-1 CUSA) ledger in 2023 and have won 14 of their past 15 matches. They have no ranked singles players, but do boast a pair of ranked doubles tandems. Ekatarina Khairutdinova and Kamila Umarova hold the No. 87 spot, while Yasmine Kabbaj and Oyinlomo Quadre check in at No. 89.
The two winners of Friday’s matches at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center will square off Saturday at 1 p.m. with a spot in the NCAA Sweet 16 on the line.
The Hurricanes, who are in the tournament for the 37th time in its 41-year history, own a 57-36 ledger in the event, including a 27-1 mark at home. The 37 appearances are tied for the eighth-most all-time, while the 57 victories rank No 10. Miami has made the second round in each of its last 20 appearances, dating back to head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ first season at the helm, and reached the Sweet 16 in 13 of the past 16 tournaments.
Miami enters the postseason with three ranked singles players, as redshirt sophomore Alexa Noel places seventh nationally, while junior Isabella Pfennig is No. 82 and fifth-year senior Daevenia Achong is No. 96.
