Virginia Earns Third Straight ACC Men's Tennis Championship


CARY, N.C. – Virginia men’s tennis secured its third-straight ACC Championship title Sunday, defeating Duke 4-1, at Cary Tennis Park, earning its 12th title in the last 15 years. Chris Rodesch was named the Championship MVP.

The Cavaliers jumped ahead 1-0 after taking the doubles point thanks to wins on Courts 2 and 3.

Ryan Goetz and Alexander Kiefer posted a 6-3 win over Duke’s Faris Khan and Niroop Vallabhaneni on Court 3, followed by Rodesch and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg registering a 6-4 win on Court 2 over the Blue Devils’ Connor Krug and Teddy Truwit.

The Cavaliers took a 2-0 lead with the first singles win of the afternoon on Court 3 as von der Schulenburg earned a 6-4, 6-2 straight set victory over Andrew Zhang. Duke chipped away at the lead with a win on Court 2 from No. 72 Pedro Rodenas over No. 21 Iñaki Montes, 6-3, 6-3.

Mans Dahlberg fought to a three-set victory over Jake Krug 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, on Court 6 while No. 83 Ryan Goetz battled Connor Krug to a three-set 6-2, 6-7 (7-2), 6-2, to clinch the match for Virginia.
