Utah drops decisions to No. 4 Stanford

STANFORD – The University of Utah women’s tennis program faced No. 4 Stanford on Sunday afternoon. The Utes fell 4-0 to Stanford, moving their record to 10-6 overall.

Utah claimed the first victory of doubles competition on the third court, where Kat Lyman and Samantha Horwood topped Katherine Hui and Valencia Xu 6-1. On court No. 2, Sara Akid and Kaila Barksdale partnered up against Angelica Blake and India Houghton, but were defeated 6-2. Then, Stanford clinched the doubles point on the No. 1 court, where Marcela Lopez and Ana Luiza Cruz fell 6-2 to Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova.

The Utes were unable to gain traction in singles. In the No. 3 spot, Lyman was defeated by Hui 6-0, 6-2. Next to finish was Barksdale on the second court, who was topped by Ma 6-0, 6-1. Then, Cruz fell to Houghton 6-2, 6-0 on the No. 5 court, allowing Stanford to claim the match victory. The remaining matches were left unfinished. 

UP NEXT

Utah is set to return to the George S. Eccles Tennis Center to host UCLA on Friday, April 5 and USC on Sunday, April 7.
