Gators Leave Mizzou Scoreless in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 12 Florida Gators finished the weekend undefeated after posting a 4-0 win at Missouri. Florida now holds a 10-7 record and is 6-2 in SEC play.

The first win of the afternoon came from doubles pair Bente Spee and Rachel Gailis defeating Andrea Artimedi and Sophia McLellan 6-1. Florida’s number one doubles team, Alicia Dudeney and Malwina Rowinska posted the second doubles victory 6-4 over No. 53 Inah Canete and Mae Canete, clinching the doubles point for the Gators.

Carly Briggs and Qavia Lopez held a 6-5 advantage over Roma Cardenas Rifka and Gabriela Martinez before Florida claimed the 1-0 advantage over the Tigers to close out doubles play.

 

Florida’s freshman Malwina Rowinska and No. 109 Qavia Lopez played a vital role in the Gators’ road victory, tallying two of three singles points. Rowinska was first to close out in a straight set win over Roma Cardenas Rifka 6-4, 6-0. The initial set was competitive as Rowinska found her grounding, but after claiming the first set 6-4, she kept with what was working and dominated 6-0 in the second.

Lopez also secured a two-set win defeating Missouri’s Gabriela Martinez. Lopez set the tone early on court three with a 6-0 first set win but Martinez rallied back to challenge Lopez in the second. The two went back and forth before Lopez closed out 6-4 to record her sixth SEC singles win and clinch the fourth and final point for the Gators.

No. 15 Rachel Gailis also made a mark in Columbia, defeating Mae Canete 6-2, 6-2 on court one. Gailis had another steady performance for the Gators and tallied her twelfth…
