Tigers Open Play at Furman – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Clemson women’s tennis team opened competition today at the Debbie Southern Invitational hosted by Furman. Cristina Mayorova pushed the No. 2 player in the nation to the edge, while the Tigers earned four combined doubles victories.

No. 77 Mayorova brought her match with Sarah Hamner of South Carolina to a third set after winning the first set 6-3. In the decisive set, the junior jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Hamner battled back to ultimately take the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Jenna Thompson and Alexandra Anttila went 2-0 doubles, winning their matches 8-3 and 8-0. Mayorova and Daniella Medvedeva won their first doubles match 8-2, and Sophia Hatton and Eleni Louka picked up a 8-6 win over the Wake Forest pairing of Carton/Li.

The Tigers will return to action tomorrow for the second day of the Debbie Southern Furman Invite.
