Tennis Setback at Iowa – Rutgers University Athletics

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Rutgers women’s tennis team (9-9, 0-7 B1G) battled it out against Iowa (10-8, 5-3 B1G) but ultimately fell on the road Friday evening, 4-2.  

Arina Valitova and Jackeline Lopez picked up their first Big Ten singles wins of the season in the match.  

 

Doubles 

Iowa took the doubles point, securing the lead with victories on the first and third courts.  

Tara Chilton/Amira Badawi’s match on the court No. 2 was tied up, 4-4, when play was suspended.  

Singles 

The Scarlet Knights fought back, tying the contest up twice before falling in three singles matches and dropping the match decision. Four of the six contests went to three sets in the hard-fought effort.  

Valitova picked up the first Big Ten singles win of her collegiate career to tie the match score, 1-1, with a straight set win (6-4, 7-5) on the fourth court. She is now 8-6 in the spring.  

After Iowa came back to take the 2-1 lead, Lopez evened the score back up with her first conference win of the season on the top court. She fought back to win the match in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
