Tennis Edged by Northwestern in Big Ten Tournament Second Round


WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The No. 13-seeded Rutgers women’s tennis team (11-13, 1-10 B1G) was downed by the No. 5 seed Northwestern (12-12, 7-3 B1G), 4-1, in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday afternoon.  

Doubles 

Northwestern came away with the doubles point to start off the match after winning decisions on courts No. 1 and No. 3.  

Mai Nguyen and Minchae Kim were up 4-2 on the middle court when the Wildcats clinched the point.  

Singles 

Northwestern went onto win three more singles matches to solidify the match win.  

Nguyen picked up her second singles win of the Big Ten Tournament with a dominant 6-3, 6-3 victory on the fifth court. The win marks her eighth of the season.  

Amira Badawi, Arina Valitova and Daira Cardenas batted hard in their matches as well, each taking a set, although it was not enough.
