Road Comes to Close For Clark, Heck at Fighting Illini Open

URBANA, Ill. – Illinois alumus Zeke Clark and rising junior Hunter Heck were each eliminated – from both singles and doubles brackets – during Thursday action at The Fighting Illini Open, a men’s tennis 25K tournament on the ITF World Tour, at Atkins Tennis Center

Clarks bid for a berth in the quarterfinal round of the singles bracket came up just short. After winning the first set in his second-round matchup vs. Eduardo Nava, 7-6(5), Clark dropped Set 2 (6-3) to knot the match. Nava eliminated Clark in a tight battle in the deciding third set, 7-6(6).

In doubles play, Clark teamed up with Heck to take on Nava and Nathan Ponwith with the winner advancing to the semifinals. Though the Illini duo battled hard, they ultimately fell in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

The Fighting Illini Open continues Friday through Sunday at Atkins Tennis Center.
