MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 9 ranked USC women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Pepperdine on Saturday, March 23 at the Ralph Strauss Tennis Center.
With the loss USC drops to 12-5, while Pepperdine improves to 10-3.
During doubles, the Waves would snag the early point as Lily Fairclough and McKenna Koenig fell to Jasmine Conway and Lisa Zaar 6-3 on court three. The Trojans No. 15 ranked duo of Eryn Cayetano and Emma Charney then lost their match on center court 6-3 to the No. 2 ranked duo of Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen. The remaining match on court two was suspended with Pepperdine’s Yang/Redelijk leading No. 42 Parker Fry and Grace Piper 5-3.
As singles began, Pepperdine got their second point of the day on court three as No. 61 Grace Piper fell to Janice Tjen 6-0, 7-5.
With the momentum in the Waves’ favor, No. 6 Lisa Zaar defeated No. 93 Snow Han 6-1, 6-4 to puts Pepperdine one point away from a victory.
The match was decided on court five as freshman Lily Fairclough fell 6-3, 7-5 to her Wave opponent No. 99 Nikki Redelijk.
Remaining matches were abandoned (all in the third set).
USC is back in action tomorrow at home as the Trojans host Hawaii at 4 p.m. PT for Kids Day. Children in attendance will receive complimentary USC hats. A poster signing session with senior student-athletes is also scheduled to take place following the matches conclusion.
