No.5 Colton Smith Receives Pac-12 POW


TUCSON, Ariz. – This week the league released that No.5 Colton Smith has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week.
 
Smith holds a top 5 ITA ranking and holds an undefeated team and solo season. Smith was a part of an impactful weekend for the Wildcats as they hosted the ITA Kickoff for the first time and qualified for the ITA Indoor Championship in program history. Smith and Jay Friend are ranked No.11, defeating Miami and No.24 Baylor in the No.1 spot.
 
Smith clinched the match against Miami 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2 coming back after falling short his first set. This victory sent the Wildcats to the second round of the weekend. His second singles win put Arizona in the lead 3-2 getting them to the eventual qualifying spot for the ITA Indoor Championship in New York. This win was also a ranked match as he dominated No.32 Tadeas Paroulek 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

This is Arizona’s second Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honor this season, being onlly their second weekend of play.
