The 14th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend is a marquee event of the spring season, bringing together the top 60 men’s and women’s college tennis teams across the country. Hosted by 15 men’s and women’s programs, each team competing seeks a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships as the winner of each site earns an automatic berth to the prestigious tournament in February.

Joining Georgia Tech at Cal will be Princeton and San Diego. Cal and Princeton will meet in the first match on Friday at 2 p.m. EST before Georgia Tech takes on San Diego in the afternoon at 5 p.m. EST. The winners will meet in the championship match on Sunday at 4 p.m. EST, while the consolation match will take place at 1 p.m. EST.

A strong field is set to compete for one spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships as both Cal and Georgia Tech are ranked in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings released Wednesday. Cal came in at No. 12, while Tech held steady at No. 25. San Diego is receiving votes. Additionally, the tournament will feature nine singles players and five doubles teams ranked in the preseason polls from the fall.

Georgia Tech opened the dual season last Friday, sweeping cross-town rival Georgia State, 7-0. The Yellow Jackets took a pair of 6-0 doubles victories to clinch the early point and did not drop a set in singles play to complete the sweep.

Cal (1-0) collected a 6-1 win over UC Santa Barbara to get its spring season started. Cal took the doubles point and five singles matches for the win, dropping only the top singles position.

San Diego (0-1) dropped a hard-fought 4-3 match to No. 14 USC to open a challenging dual season. USC grabbed the doubles point, but San Diego rallied in singles play, winning three matches, pushing the match to the brink.

Princeton (3-0) opened its dual season with a trio of wins, including two 7-0 victories. The Tigers most recently topped Penn State, 6-1, before heading to California.
