No. 25 Wisconsin drops to No. 2 Michigan

MADISON, Wis. –  The No. 25 Wisconsin women’s tennis team faced the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines today, April 12, on the outside courts of Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Wolverines came out on top, 4-0.

At No. 2 doubles, Taylor Cataldi and Maria Sholokhova were leading, 5-3, but retired due to the Wolverines claiming the doubles point.

The entire singles lineup for Michigan was ranked in the ITA rankings. The Badgers went to their respective courts with a change of attitude from the doubles point and attempted to put on a showing. Sholokhova forced a third set against the No. 3 singles player in the country, and was on track to win before retiring. Cataldi and Johnson also led in their third sets.

Miller/Brown def. Mukhortova/Cai: 6-1

Sholokhova/Cataldi retired Miller/Charney: 5-3

Fliegner/Jones def. Reynoldson/Johnson: 6-0

Singles

No. 3 Miller retired No. 78 Maria Sholokhova: 7-5, 6-2

No. 64 Mesochoritou  def. Alina Mukhortova: 6-3, 6-3

Taylor Cataldi retired No 108 Brown: 7-6 (7-2), 3-6

No. 22 Fliegner def. Xinyu Cai: 6-4, 705

Ariel Johnson retired No. 77 Jones: 4-6, 6-2

No. 110 Charney def. Ava Martin: 7-6 (7-3), 6-3

Up Next

The Badgers host Senior Day on Sunday, April 14, against the Michigan State Spartans. Singles is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. with doubles to follow. The team will honor Xinyu Cai, Rosie Garcia Gross, and Alina Mukhortova, with a ceremony prior to first serve.
