SEATTLE – The 15th-ranked California women’s tennis team took an early lead over fifth-ranked and fourth-seeded Michigan, but the Golden Bears ultimately fell to the Wolverines, 4-2, in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship first round Friday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

The Bears (2-1) captured the doubles point against Michigan (5-1) to take a 1-0 advantage. Senior Valentina Ivanov later won in straight sets in singles to give Cal a 2-1 lead. But Michigan clinched its victory when Cal junior Lan Mi – who fought off six match points against in the second set – fell to Piper Charney, 6-1, 6-7(9), 6-3.
