No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Tops Washington State 5-2

LOS ANGELES – The No. 11 ranked USC women’s tennis team recorded their second win of the weekend, as the Trojans downed Pac-12 rival Washington State 5-2 on Saturday, March. 9 at Marks Stadium.
 
USC got out to an early lead after claiming the doubles point. The Cougars took the center court match 6-4 over Fairclough/Koenig, but USC answered with back-to-back wins on courts two and three. On court two, the No. 36 ranked duo of Grace Piper and Parker Fry downed Washington State’s Yura Nakagawa and Fifa Kumhom 6-4. Snow Han and Naomi Cheong followed it up with a 6-4 victory on court three over WSU’s Hania Abouelsaad/Martina Markov. 
 
Moving into singles play with a one point advantage, it would be McKenna Koenig who’d extend the Trojans lead as she downed WSU’s Abouelsaad 6-3, 6-1 on court five. Three additional Women of Troy recorded singles wins as No. 31 Emma Charney, Sloane Morra and No. 88 Snow Han all defeated their respective Cougar opponents. 
 
Charney defeated Elyse Tse 6-2, 6-3 on court two before Morra delivered the clincher on court six, beating Martina Markov 6-3, 6-3. USC’s final point of the day came on center court as Trojan Snow Han battled back from a first set loss to beat Eva Alvarez Sande 3-6, 6-2, 1-0. 
 
Washington State’s two points of the day came from a retirement on court four (Naomi Cheong) and a victory on court three where Yura Nakagawa downed No. 51 ranked Grace Piper 7-5, 6-4 
 
USC is back in action on Friday, March 15 as the Trojans host Arizona at 1:30 p.m. PT at Marks Stadium.
