No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Falls to Crosstown Rival No. 10 UCLA 4-2

LOS ANGELES – No. 11 USC women’s tennis suffered their first home court loss of the season as the Trojans fell 4-2 to crosstown rival No. 10 UCLA on Friday, April 19 at Marks Tennis Stadium.
 
With the loss USC drops to 17-7 and finishes the Pac-12 regular season 8-2 overall. With today’s win, UCLA claims the Pac-12 regular season title with a record of 9-1. 
 
The doubles point went to the Bruins following wins on courts one and two. First on court two, UCLA’s No. 76 ranked Kimmi Hance and Anne Christine Lutkemeyer beat USC’s Lily Fairclough and McKenna Koenig 6-1. Next, the Women of Troy struck back as USC’s No. 60 ranked duo of Grace Piper and Parker Fry powered past UCLA’s Ahmani Guichard/Bianca Fernandez 6-3 on court three. With all eyes on center court, the No. #17 ranked Bruin duo of Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle would down No. 18 ranked Eryn Cayetano and Emma Charney 6-2 to haul in the doubles point for UCLA.
 
Entering singles with a one-point deficit, Trojan Grace Piper would strike first in individual play to even the score. No. 54 ranked Piper downed UCLA’s No. 72 ranked Bianca Fernandez 6-2, 6-4 on court three. Next, UCLA’s No. 39 ranked Tian Fangran beat No. 84 ranked Snow Han 6-3, 6-3. Another point went to the Bruins as Sloane Morra fell to Mia Jovic 6-2, 7-5. 
 
USC’s No. 34 ranked Emma Charney fought back, downing No. 21 ranked Kimmi Hance 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on court two to keep the Trojans hopes alive. 
 
The match was clinched on court four as Elise Wagle downed USC’s No. 79 ranked Eryn Cayetano 1-6, 6-2, 7-5. 
 
USC will kick off the postseason this upcoming week as the Trojans await their first opponent in the Pac-12 Championship Tournament. The tournament begins Wednesday, April 24 and runs through Saturday, April 27 in Ojai, Calif.
