LOS ANGELES – The No. 10 ranked USC women’s tennis team downed Oregon 4-0 on Friday, Feb. 12 to remain uneaten so far this season at Marks Stadium.
With the win, USC improves to 17-6 on the season and is now 8-1 in Pac-12 play. The Trojans remain atop the Pac-12 standings and will play UCLA next Friday, April 19 for a chance at a regular season title.
The Trojans snagged the early point following a pair of doubles wins. A swift 6-0 victory by McKenna Koenig and Lily Fairclough over Oregon’s Uxia Martinez and Tilde Jagare on court two put the Trojans in front. Next, USC’s No. 54 ranked duo of Parker Fry and Grace Piper downed Oregon’s Nina Geissler and Karin Young 6-4 on court three to haul in the early point. The remaining match on center court was abandoned with No. 20 Eryn Cayetano and Emma Charney leading Oregon’s Chan/Luescher 5-4.
USC moved into singles play with first set wins on courts one through five and followed it up with match wins on courts five, one and two. First, McKenna Koenig beat Karin Young 6-2, 6-3 on court five to put the Trojans up 2-0. Next, the No. 105 ranked singles player Snow Han would power past Sophie Luescher 6-1, 6-3 on center court.
The match was won on court two as No. 36 Emma Charney delivered the clincher over Oregon’s Geissler 6-0, 6-2.
The remaining matches were abandoned with USC leading on courts three and four. Freshman Immi Haddad trailed Oregon’s Candela Aparisi on court six.
USC is back in action on Friday, April 19 as the Trojans celebrate Senior Day against crosstown rival No. 15 UCLA at 1:30 p.m. PT.
