CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The UNC women’s tennis team (26-0, 12-0 ACC), swept No. 24 Wake Forest (14-11, 4-7) 4-0 on Saturday morning at the Carolina Tennis Center.
North Carolina began the morning with wins on doubles courts two and three to clinch the doubles point and enter singles play with a 1-0 lead over Wake Forest.
After dropping doubles court one, the No. 6 ranked tandem of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig recorded a 6-1 victory to give UNC its first win of the day. With the doubles point at stake, Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran came through with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead.
The Tar Heels made quick work of the Demon Deacons in singles play.
No. 87 Reilly Tran set the pace for UNC, she won her singles match 6-0, 6-1 to give North Carolina a 2-0 lead. At No. 4 singles, No. 81 Elizabeth Scotty won 6-2, 6-0 to extend the Tar Heel lead to 3-0.
A few moments later, top-ranked singles player Fiona Crawley clinched the match for the Tar Heels. She defeated No. 66 Anna Brylin 6-1, 6-0 to claim the decisive fourth point and extend North Carolina’s winning streak to 26 straight matches.
Abbey Forbes, Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda’s matches all went unfinished.
